Studying in Canada

Travel

Due to the vast size of Canada, you may want to use a combination of airplanes, trains, buses and automobiles to get the most out of your travels and your budget.

You can take advantage of lower costs by purchasing your travel tickets in advance. Airfares within provinces are often cheaper, or the same price as bus fares. Check out fares with charter airlines such as WestJet www.westjet.com or Air Canada www.aircanada.ca for all flights within Canada and abroad.

The train may not always be the most economical way to travel, but it is the best way to see Canada’s amazing scenery. Check out the web site www.viarail.ca

To book tickets for coach travel within Canada www.greyhound.ca

Be sure to take advantage of student discount cards such as the ISIC card - the International student ID card for travel discounts www.isic-canada.com/index2.html

In order to return to Canada, you must be in possession of:

  • a valid passport or travel document

  • a valid Study Permit if you are returning to study in Canada
  • A valid Temporary Resident Visa, if you are a citizen of one of these countries

If your Temporary Resident Visa has expired, or was for single entry only, you will have to submit a completed temporary resident visa application to a Canadian embassy, high commission, or consulate abroad in order to re-enter Canada.
