Services for Students
Studying in New Zealand

Healthcare

Although New Zealand has an excellent healthcare system, these services are generally not free for international students. However, some colleges and universities will have a student health centre that will offer basic medical care at little or no cost.

Unless you are entitled to public hospital treatment in New Zealand, treatments for accidents or serious illnesses can be expensive, so health insurance is essential. It is actually compulsory for students to take out full medical insurance cover. An average medical insurance cover for a single student would cost approximately NZ$500-600 per year.
