Studying in the UK

Healthcare

If you are on a course lasting 6 months or more, you are entitled to free medical treatment from the National Health Service (NHS).

If your course lasts for 6 months or less, it is advisable to take out health insurance unless you come from a EU country or a country with a reciprocal agreement for free health care in the UK.

To find out if your country has a reciprocal agreement with the UK for free healthcare, visit:
www.publications.doh.gov.uk/overseasvisitors/Rha.htm

You may also be able to get free or reduced cost dental and eye treatment if you are registered with an NHS dentist or optician and are on a low income.

To find a doctor in your area when you get the UK, and for free online health advice, visit: www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/ or call 0845 4647 where you will be able to speak to an experienced health professional.
