Travel Due to the vast size of the United States, you may want to use a combination of airplanes, trains, buses and automobiles to get the most out of your travels and your budget. You can take advantage of lower costs by purchasing your travel tickets in advance. To book tickets for train travel within the USA www.amtrak.com/ To book tickets for coach travel within the USA www.greyhound.com There are also private regional bus firms that travel to tourist destinations within and between states. Check the Internet or Yellow Pages. If you are travelling within the US, it is advisable to carry a valid passport, L-94, a properly endorsed L-20 or DS-2019 and proof of current registration or program. Non-registered students or visitors should obtain verification of their current good standing with their department. If you are planning to travel to Canada or Mexico, you need to determine if citizens of your country require a visa. If you need a visa, contact the nearest Canadian or Mexican consulate well in advance of your planned trip as it could take up to a month to process a visa application. If you are not maintaining your F or J status, or if you are at all unsure about your visa status it is highly recommended that you speak with an Immigration Advisor before you travel outside of the US.
